Now that our 9 Bahinis have passed their SEE, we are excited for them to pursue further education, and we are guiding the girls to make the best career choices. We are also helping all the other graduates, so the entire school and community benefits. There was a long break between the SEE test and the result time. We used that time for about 2 months and organized a program which would prepare them to make the best decision about what major to pursue.

For that, we developed a program which provided computer training, career counseling, mental and physical wellbeing awareness classes, and also had other fun activities like hiking. Having computer skills gives added advantage to students whatever their majors are! Around 100 students took the training, and the most encouraging fact was there were more girls than boys in the program.

Most of the 10th graders do not have a good idea on what line of study they want to pursue  in college. Also, there is no one in their families who can help them guide. And, this is where they have to make a decision on their career choices, as they have to pick their majors.

So, we held a career counseling workshop for all SEE students with an expert trainer Pabitra Ghimire. Students had different interests about what they wanted to be, but most of them had no idea what factors were necessary to get there.

In this workshop, they learned that making a perfect choice of a career depends on the basis of their interests, skills, educational performance, and financial situation. They also learned to find out their strengths, weaknesses, and interests and do research on the subject of their interest, find out options, make an action plan, and follow through. She also suggested that there are online resources and visiting the sites like careerplanner.com website and exploring detailed information on thousands of careers would be helpful.
