When we began partnering with our friends at LitWorld a couple years ago, we knew that there was a great synergy between our respective organizations. LitWorld’s mission of empowering all children to author lives of independence, hope, and joy and our mission of empowering underprivileged girls through education complemented each other very well. As our foundation is providing scholarship, mentoring, and health & wellness services, the addition of programming offered by LitClub at Niharika School (just outside of Kathmandu) provided a way for us to reach another school and reach girls in a different part of Nepal.
LitClub Niharika started our collaboration with LitWorld in a beautiful way
The success of LitClub Niharika has been not only in giving additional girls the chance to express themselves through stories and team activities, but also an opportunity for our Didis (mentors) to mentor younger females while learning some valuable life skills in the process. A great example is our Didi Surabhi Sharma who has done an amazing job with LitClub Niharoka. She has not only run the club well by leading many field trips and various activities in the local community, but has also learned leadership skills and is training other mentors in how to run a LitClub.
Girls from LitClub Niharika have taken part in many field trips, community activities, and group activities
When we discussed the idea of expanding to additional LitClubs in Nepal, our friends at LitWorld were very supportive of the idea, and have helped us to add two more LitClubs in Nepal: LitClub Shikharapur at our partner school Shikharapur Community School and LitClub Setidevi at our partner school Setidevi Secondary School. Thanks to the support of LitWorld, the enthusiasm of our new partner schools, and the guidance of our Didi Surabhi, we are proud to say that the two new LitClubs are now up and running.
LitClub Setidevi expands our reach to villages around Pharping
LitClub Shikharapur members are happy to be able to share stories and be a part of a club
We are very grateful to our friends at LitWorld for working with us to provide these opportunities for girls in Nepal. We have seen great results already and we hope to keep growing together.
