When she was thirteen, Anju lost her mother due to illness. Without her mother, Anju had to take over as the homemaker.There was serious pressure on Anju to get married in order to reduce the economic burden on her family.

After losing her mother, Anju struggled with abuse at home and her father was also not willing to pay for the school supplies she needed to continue school. Because of the economic situation for the family, her father was very seriously considering marriage as a way to reduce this burden. However, she wanted to continue school and sought help from a teacher. The teacher reached out to us and Rukmini Foundation stepped in.

Through counseling and financial support, Anju is continuing school and her father is now supportive of her education.
Her marriage is postponed and Anju’s life has a much better prospect than a few years ago. She now has something to smile about and something besides marriage to look forward to.
